No Silver Bullet

By now everybody knows about Google’s algorithm change. While the latest changes helped some sites and hurt others, it does actually affect nearly 12% of all queries according to Google. The lesson we have learned is that Google has power, everybody knows it, and that power is not subject to change any time soon. We are left with trying to understand Google’s rules and algorithms and doing the best job we can to allow our website to rank well on Google’s

That being said, it would appear that the best way to rank well will be to give Google what they want. Apparently Google still wants SEO, great content and plenty of back links. The process still makes sense to me:

  • Search engine optimization is the foundation of any online marketing strategy. Google determines what your webpage is about by how the page is optimized. SEO involves performing necessary keyword research and using those keywords on your website in such a way that Google will place your page in their index where you want it to be.
  • Content is still king. Great content entices readers to return to your website on a regular basis.
  • And Google’s view of back links is that each link represents votes by your readers for your site. The more votes you have, the more authority Google deems you to have on your particular subject. Therefore more votes means higher rankings.

What all this simply means that the process of marketing a business on the Internet involves utilizing all the lines of communication that are available on the web.

  • Make sure your site is properly optimized for the search engines.
  • Continue to write great content. You must give your users the content they are looking for.
  • Create and follow a link building campaign. Reciprocal linking, blogging, article marketing and directory listings are all great ways of creating back links.
  • In addition to these an Internet marketer must be concerned with traffic conversion. Getting visitors to your site is one thing. Getting them to do something on your site is another.

All of this shows that there is no silver bullet. There is no one process or action that can be done which will solve all of your Internet marketing needs. Take advantage of all of the lines of communication that are available to you on the Internet. If you need help, give us a call.
